The 2018 Game Awards nominations were announced with 2K Sports and EA Sports games as part of the contenders. The two companies known for their popular lines of sports video games will go head-to-head in the sports/racing category. This year’s nominees will include FIFA 19 as well as NBA 2K19 with one possibly taking an award. They’ll have three other nominees to contend with, though, as they try to claim the prize this year.
2018 Game Awards Nominees: NBA 2K19 and FIFA 19
In the world of basketball video games, it’s always considered a battle between 2K Sports and EA Sports titles. However, it’s been made quite clear that NBA 2K19 is the better title, based on the recent Game Awards nomination. The latest NBA title features great modes such as MyCareer, MyLeague, and MyTeam. There’s also realistic team matchups involving players of the past and present.
The NBA 2K19 game currently holds an 8.5 out of 10 score from IGN, and a 9 out of 10 score from Game Informer. Metacritic rates the game with aggregate scores of 84 out of 100 on Xbox One, and an 82 out of 100 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 versions.

There’s a battle between soccer/football titles but FIFA 19 is the more recognizable name in terms of the sport. With features like FIFA 19 Ultimate Team and the recent addition of the Champions League, gamers are enjoying the new aspects of the exciting game. Recently, EA unveiled a new “Road to the Final” campaign for players to delve into. The FIFA video game has an 8.2 out of 10 via IGN and an 83 percent score from PC Gamer.
Both of these titles are worthy contenders within the sports game category. However, they’ll be up against one another and three other games also deserving of their nominations.
2018 Game Awards Nominees: The Other Contenders
Battling NBA 2K19 and FIFA 19 in the sports/racing game category will be three other contenders. They’ll include racing game Forza Horizon 4, Mario Tennis Aces, and FIFA 19 rival Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. If the latter of these titles wins the award, it could make a serious statement to EA Sports to improve things for the 2020 edition of their game. Fans of FIFA who were hoping for more from the game this year may be hoping that’s the case.
The video below shows off some of the other big nominees that were presented on Tuesday. They’ll include the coveted Game of the Year award.
