As of today, 2K has unveiled a brand new mobile game for basketball fans to enjoy called NBA Supercard. The game combines the popularity of the sport’s star athletes with the mobile card battle games that have become popular. It features NBA and WNBA players’ cards in the game with hundreds available at launch. Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns is the first official cover athlete.
2K releases new battle card mobile game, cover athlete details
2K’s NBA Supercard mobile game officially launched on Thursday, December 10, as a free download, with potential for in-app purchases. The first cover athlete for the game will be NBA All-Star Karl Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, who spoke about his excitement over the news.
“I can’t wait to be the first cover athlete on NBA SuperCard,” said Karl-Anthony Towns in a statement via 2K. “With more of my fans engaging with the NBA on their phones, this is an exciting way to get your basketball fix before the season tips off.”
Towns is preparing with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2019-20 NBA season, which tips off December 22, 2020. Meanwhile, fans will be enjoying the newest mobile game to combine basketball stars with card battle games.

It was developed by Cat Daddy Games. They’re the 2K Studio who worked on another popular battle card game, WWE Supercard.
“We are incredibly excited for NBA SuperCard,” said Harley Howe, Co-Studio Head at Cat Daddy Games.
“With tough challenges, various gameplay tiers and a number of iconic NBA and WNBA superstars to battle with, NBA SuperCard is poised to become one of our favorite mobile games for our fans to play yet. We’re proud to expand the NBA 2K mobile experience, and we look forward to growing this game alongside our community of fans and newcomers,” Howe said.
The news of Supercard arrives not long after VGR reported on Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant and his Thirty Five Ventures, partnering with 2K on their NBA 2K Mobile game.
What is NBA Supercard?
With NBA Supercard, gamers are collecting cards of their favorite basketball stars to do battle with other Supercard players. The game features both NBA and WNBA stars from the past and present. Over 350 players available upon the mobile game’s launch and will be different tier levels for cards.
Some of the stars will include LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Candace Parker, among others. 2K announced more will be added to the available players in the future. However, over 350 is a great start at launch.
Supercard is a lot like the MyTeam concept, where gamers are collecting cards for it. However, it’s not quite the same environment or type of game as NBA 2K21 MyTeam on a console.
With Supercard, gamers collect NBA or WNBA player cards for their decks. They can train them to be stronger, and use them to do battle with other gamers around the globe. Winning weekly events brings “strong rewards” which can help gamers reach higher tier levels in Supercard.
NBA Supercard’s first season is underway
With the launch of the game comes the first official season in terms of content. Per 2K’s information release, the first season of NBA Supercard and seasons thereafter will feature the following aspects:
- Weekly events and limited edition cards;
- New packs and pack types;
- New card tiers;
- Exclusive sales and one-time deals;
- New players and rookies;
- Additional event types;
- Crafting materials and customized card creation;
- Collectibles System and popular modes brought over from MyNBA2K.
Future updates will arrive in the coming weeks and month to bring more players, content, events, and other cool stuff. That should keep gamers super-busy playing Supercard when they’re on the go, or maybe even when waiting to get into a pickup game on NBA 2K21.
Gamers can download NBA Supercard free for their compatible mobile devices at the Apple App Store (iOS) for iPhones and iPads. In addition, it’s a free download at Google Play Store for Android devices. Keep in mind it also offers in-app purchases to decide upon.
