Japanese developer Level 5 has revealed that Yokai Watch 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch in Japan later this year in the winter. Unfortunately, no Western release has been announced yet for the upcoming monster-collecting and battling JRPG game. But we do have a ton of new information and screenshots to share regarding the latest in the series.
Much like Pokemon X & Y, the jump to a new console for the very first time seems to be treating Yokai Watch 4 very nicely. The most immediate difference between previous entries in the series and this latest one is the graphical improvement. The upgrade from 3DS to Nintendo Switch has allowed for a lot better visuals than before.
The screenshots (like the one above) and the Yokai Watch 4 release window for Japan were announced in the latest issue of the Coro Coro Japanese comic. The art style seems to be taking a step towards the quality graphics of Level 5’s other renowned franchise, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Ni no Kuni 2. Supposedly, the game will look even better than the above screenshot at its final release.
Unlike the last two in the series, it seems Yokai Watch 4 might not be split up into multiple versions like the Pokemon series is doing with Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee! This will allow everyone to have the same experience, if so, on Nintendo Switch. The game has yet to be announced for outside of Japan. In fact, neither has Yokai Watch 3’s three versions on 3DS.
Nintendo, personally, published the first two games on 3DS for Level 5 outside of Japan and this could be the reason why we haven’t heard an announcement yet. Yokai Watch 4 does share striking base similarities between it and Pokemon. With a new set of Pokemon games out this holiday, Nintendo could be waiting for an announcement when it won’t overlap too much. In the meantime, Pokemon Go has a new challenger in the mobile market with Yokai Watch World.
