If there’s one thing that fans can pick up from the Cyberpunk 2077 story trailer, it’s that media in Night City is everywhere. From neon advertising to holographic entertainment displays, VR headsets, and more; media is omnipresent in one form or another. While the game will clearly allow players to explore Night City as V; how far will the developers go in creating actual Cyberpunk 2077 broadcasting? Can V actually partake in any of the media filling the screens around them?
Entertainment in Night City: Cyberpunk 2077 Broadcasting
If the upcoming sci-fi RPG resembles the tabletop RPG on which it is based (thus far, it certainly does), then the developers could put a lot of effort into this aspect of the game. In an interview with PCGamesN, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of Cyberpunk 2020, related a conversation he had with developers at E3. During the event, a developer from CD Projekt Red had complained that they didn’t know; “What people watch, what they do on their video screens.” Pondsmith had an answer, however. He pointed the developer in the direction of one of the original Cyberpunk 2020 books, which features; “an entire TV guide” of broadcasting.

According to Pondsmith, the book; “actually lists… one week of programming then… in-depth on several programs.” However, CD Projekt Red might not be inclined to include them all. Apparenly, the developers who wrote the guide made much of them up at short-notice; “throwing out just stupid programmes”. However, it could certainly point CD Projekt Red in the right direction when it comes to Cyberpunk 2077 broadcasting. With so many screens and other forms of media prevalent in the overcrowded metropolis, it would seem strange if V could never actually engage with any of that media. CD Projekt Red has already described the role of “braindance” in one recent blog post. This highly-invasive form of reality TV allows an audience to watch events as they occur through someone else’s eyes; presumably using VR.
