One of the biggest boons that’s currently available to more casual Destiny 2 players is the weekly Flashpoint activity. Currently, Flashpoints are one of the weekly milestones that all players can complete to earn themselves a Powerful Engram which is virtually guaranteed to decrypt into a gear upgrade and, in many cases, even an Exotic. However, according to this recent coverage that Game Informer provided as part of its month-long Forsaken cover story, Flashpoints will become even more player-friendly once the upcoming expansion arrives.
In their current form, Flashpoints involve visiting a specific planet and performing certain activities while on that planet to slowly fill up a percentage meter. The fastest way to fill up the meter is by participating in public events, but planetary patrol activities can also provide a small percentage bump during the downtime between public event spawns. Aside from public events and patrols though, no other planetary activities contribute to the Flashpoint, something which has long rubbed players the wrong way given how many other activities each Destiny 2 planet houses.
When the Forsaken expansion arrives this upcoming September, Flashpoints will finally get the extra bit of love they need. Game Informer’s wording is a little weird, but it at least confirms that each planet’s series of Lost Sectors will also progress the Flashpoint percentage when completed, providing players with yet another avenue towards efficiently building up the percentage meter. This is very good news indeed since, outside of Faction Rallies, Lost Sectors are mostly ignored by endgame players since the rewards they provide aren’t very exciting.
It also sounds like patrols will grant a larger percentage of Flashpoint percentage, though again, this is based off the somewhat odd language Game Informer uses in its preview article. It would be nice if patrols did indeed get a Flashpoint bump since it would mean that players wouldn’t have to rely as heavily on chain-running public events.
Flashpoints will also be part of the weekly activity refresh tweaks that will also be included in the Forsaken expansion. Sadly, while players currently report to the loveable Exo Hunter Cayde-6 to redeem their Flashpoint completions, that will no longer be the case after the expansion arrives.
