Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was officially confirmed by Activision last month and set for an Oct. 12 release date – a whole month earlier than the traditional November launch of Call of Duty titles.
Since then, loads of rumors have been going around about what features the game will include and how the play would stand up to other games in the franchise. However, Activision and Treyarch haven’t released a lot of information yet about Black Ops 4, and perhaps worse, haven’t confirmed or denied any rumors or reports about the first-person shooter.
Here’s the scoop on what we know about the game so far.
Black Ops 4 Confirmed News
Little is known about Black Ops 4, but that could change at the official community reveal event for the game on May 17. There, Call of Duty fans will likely see some Black Ops 4 gameplay and get more information about the title.
Black Ops 4 will be released on Oct. 12, which is one month earlier than Call of Duty fans are used to expecting new titles from the franchise.
Prospective players can already preorder Black Ops 4, though none of the preorder incentives that Call of Duty titles usually get have been announced yet. Preorder listings have been found on Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop.

Black Ops 4 Rumors and Reports
Perhaps the most intriguing report circulating about Black Ops 4 is that it will not include a traditional single-player campaign. According to some sources that spoke to Polygon, the game will instead focus on the multiplayer and Zombies modes.
Some rumors have even said that Black Ops 4 will be getting a battle royale mode that could be replacing the traditional story mode. Given the rising popularity for battle royale titles right now, such as PUBG and Fortnite, it wouldn’t be surprising if Activision decided to take Black Ops 4 in a similar direction.
Just last week, another rumor surfaced that said Black Ops 4’s multiplayer mode could resemble Overwatch. The rumor originated from a leak from Twitter user Matt Harris, who allegedly has sources who’ve play-tested a version of Black Ops 4.
“Sources who have play-tested the mode claim that it is less like a Call of Duty mode and more like a Call of Duty Overwatch or a Call of Duty Lawbreakers,” Harris said.
Harris also said that this version of Black Ops 4 “fell flat with playtesters.” However, now “things are changing” and the game is reportedly beginning to more closely resemble Black Ops 3. This rumor is concerning because Treyarch has had about two years to develop Black Ops 4 and to hear that it isn’t striking a chord with playtesters raises some red flags.
None of these reports have been confirmed or denied by Activision or Treyarch. Fans can look forward to the official Black Ops reveal event on May 17 to learn more about the upcoming game.
