Epic Games has released the latest patch for Fortnite Battle Royale; the v5.20 update. This new patch implements a variety of performance improvements and bug fixes to Fortnite, as to be expected from a patch. However, it also introduces a number of new features, including a new weapon; the Double Barrel Shotgun.
Fortnite Update v5.20
Epic Games has released the full detailed patch notes online, which cover every fix and feature introduced by the new update. The headline new feature for v5.20, however, is the Double Barrel Shotgun. The weapon is described by Epic Games as; “devastating at close range, the Double Barrel Shotgun packs a punch with each of its 2 shots”. Given that the weapon has such limited ammunition capacity and range, Epic Games’ description is unlikely to be an exaggeration.
The second major new feature is the Steady Storm limited time mode for Battle Royale; “This Storm waits for no player and there are no safe zones,” states the patch notes; “stay aware of the map and keep moving it to the center of the circle in the Steady Storm LTM”. The mode features a single Storm which steadily closes over the course of fifteen minutes. In addition to Steady Storm, the version 5.20 update adds a new Mythic Outlander to the Save the World mode. Ragnarok, the Dark Viking, features a “ground-shattering ability,” called Seismic Impact. The final new feature are a number of new Horde Challenges which have been added to the game.
Beyond the new features, the latest Fortnite update makes an array of tweaks and fixes throughout the game. Twelve different bugs have been patched, Vending Machines have been re-balanced, Remote Explosives have been nerfed, and there is now a greater penalty to accuracy for several weapons when players jump or sprint. Because there’s too many small changes to detail here, players should see the patch notes on Epic Games’ website for full details of what v5.20 does to the game.
