While heavy-hitters within the Blizzard stable such as Overwatch and World of Warcraft have been getting a lot of attention lately, the company’s Diablo franchise has spent the past few years languishing in obscurity. Diablo 3, the newest entry in the series, is basically operating in maintenance mode at this point, with the game’s ongoing seasons really only appealing to more hardcore players. However, a recent Twitter video from Blizzard community manager Brandy Camel has now revealed that the patience Diablo fans have been displaying may soon be paying off.
The video, while brief, confirms that Blizzard has multiple Diablo projects in the works, proving that the company isn’t quite done with the grim and gothic RPG franchise.
Here’s Camel’s full statement:
“The forges here at Blizzard are burning hot, and we have multiple Diablo projects in the works. Some of them are going to take longer than others, but we may have some things to show you later this year.”
There’s a good chance that “later this year” could be in reference to this year’s BlizzCon 2018 convention which is scheduled to be held during the two-day period of November 2-3 in Anaheim, CA. BlizzCon often serves as the venue where Blizzard unveils brand new games and game expansions, and it has long been rumored that a new fully-fledged Diablo title is being developed.
As for some of the other projects that Camel hints at, fans believe that one of them may very well be a Nintendo Switch port of Diablo 3. Blizzard itself seemingly teased such a possibility way back in February of this year, though it later said that the tease was meant more as a joke and that it didn’t have any plans to bring Diablo 3 to Nintendo’s newest platform.
For now, speculation is really all we have, though it’s at least good to know that, much like its namesake lord of terror, the Diablo series will soon rise again.
