Next month’s Forsaken expansion for Destiny 2 will be revamping many of the game’s core systems, from gear infusion to weapon mods, and now it has been revealed that PvE strikes and Meditations will be getting some pretty drastic changes as well.
According to the most recent This Week at Bungie blog post, Heroic strikes and Prestige Nightfalls will both be retired when the Forsaken pre-patch goes live on August 28. For player who don’t own the Forsaken expansion (what Bungie refers to as ‘legacy players’), the current 200 Power Level strike playlist will continue to be available, and a new strike playlist with three different difficulty levels will become available to Forsaken players.
The three new Forsaken strike difficulty levels will be set at a recommended power of 300, 400, and 500 respectively, providing a more gradual and clear-cut climb for players who prefer running strikes. Also, to ensure that all three difficulty levels are appropriately populated with players, the previous difficulty will become locked off once a player is at least 40 Power Level points higher than its recommended power (so a 340 Power Level player won’t be able to queue up for the 300 power strikes).
As for the Nightfall strikes, Bungie will be upping the difficulty of standard Nightfalls to make up for the lack of Prestige Nightfalls. Players will also be able to select from three different Nightfall strikes during each new week, giving them a greater chance at finding the Nightfall-specific rewards they really want.
The launch of the Forsaken expansion will also mean the end of Ikora Rey’s Meditations. In their place will be a new Heroic story mission playlist that will feature both story missions from Forsaken and missions from the base game and previous expansions. Forsaken Heroic story missions will always be scaled at 500 power while pre-Forsaken missions will scale to a recommended power that’s appropriate for their release period (so Warmind missions will likely require a higher power than Curse of Osiris missions). This will ensure that even legacy players can participate in the new Heroic story mission playlist.
