Epic Games Aims For Default Judgment on Alleged 14-Year-Old Fortnite Cheater

Next time you think about cheating in Fortnite, keep this strange story in mind. Epic Games ended up filing a lawsuit against a 14-year-old boy who was caught cheating in the game through the use of some particularly nefarious means, or so Epic Games alleged.

Epic accused the player of modifying Fortnite’s code and cheating, and then live-streaming his time with the game.

It prompted a nasty letter from the defendant’s mother, who claimed that there was no proof against her son, and that she had never given him permission to play in the first place, which was effectively against the terms of service. Still, that didn’t keep Epic Games from alleging the player had committed copyright infringement through his modification of the game.

This letter had been taken as a motion to dismiss the case, and then there was a long period of silence ever since the mother’s letter was mailed back in November. Epic Games has just now issued its own response, effectively stating that the motion to dismiss must be denied since no one has proven that the alleged cheater had nothing to do with the copyright infringement case in the first place.

As a result, the company is seeking a default judgment in the case, though there isn’t any real information about what exactly the company is seeking to gain from the lawsuit, though it’s likely some sort of monetary damages are being pursued.

However the case ends up, which you can read in full about here via TorrentFreak, let it be a lesson to not mess with Epic Games, even if for some reason you think you’re above the law. It looks like they mean business, even if you’re 14 and your mom’s got your back.
