Recently, a Reddit user and Battlefield veteran who goes by “FlyingOfficer” reported that they had lost access to their Origin account. When they contacted EA, they found that their account had been completely deleted. The gamer was subsequently stonewalled by EA Help, who denied culpability for the loss. However, after the gamer’s story was spread by thousands of other gamers online, EA eventually changed their tune and was able to recreate the missing profile. The reason for the deletion is still unknown.
EA Stonewalls Accusations Over Mysteriously Deleted Origin Account
FlyingOfficer first reported the missing account to EA a few weeks ago. The account had been deleted, but they had received no deletion requests or emails concerning the deletion, even though the account was protected by two-step verification. The account, according to FlyingOfficer, contained “games worth thousands of dollars,” including most of the Battlefield titles. He claimed to have provided EA with transaction records, credit card information, and other details to prove that he made the purchases through his account.
EA, however, claimed that they had received a deletion request, even though none had been seen by FlyingOfficer. When asked to provide evidence of receiving that request, they were unable to provide any. They also reportedly claimed that they couldn’t verify any of FlyingOfficer’s claims, because all of the account details he was attempting to verify had been deleted. After that, EA deleted the gamer’s case ID, preventing him from tracking details of the conversation they had been having. FlyingOfficer then posted a log from a subsequent conversation with EA Help. The representative appears to repeatedly stonewall the gamer, going in circles; all without offering any adequate response to the gamer’s queries or evidence to back up their own arguments. EA then deleted the case ID again.
EA Changes Tune and Resolution
FlyingOfficer’s nightmarish account spread rapidly on Reddit and elsewhere. FlyingOfficer himself posted a “thank you” update thanking everybody who supported him. The widespread community support appears to have worked; EA has now changed their tune. The company eventually recovered the gamer’s soldier ID on a new account. They also provided most of his games to that account, although they did not provide his pre-order of Battlefield 5. They did provide him with 12 months free use of Origin Premier, which he stressed he did not ask for. Of course, they were unable to recreate the saved data from any of those games, but FlyingOfficer has stated that; “I am quite satisfied that I got my soldier ID back.”
In a recent update, FlyingOfficer reiterated his support of DICE and the Battlefield franchise in general; “I want to strongly back the developers (i.e. DICE) of Battlefield and the Franchise itself as they have delivered to us some of the best First Person Shooters in last 15 years”. However, he was far less supportive of EA and wished that the two companies were not aligned.
