We recently covered how the ever-popular MMORPG RuneScape had made $800 million in revenue but that has since been updated. As of June 30, 2018, the long-running MMORPG franchise is celebrating $1 billion dollars in total revenue over the course of its lifetime. The news doesn’t end there, though, as the game’s developer and publisher Jagex has announced a new venture called Jagex Partners.
Jagex Partners is a new third-party publishing initiative from the publisher that will see it “deliver live game publishing and operational services tailored specifically to the needs of third-party studios.” Partner studios will have access to a wide variety of Jagex’s services for live games like RuneScape including user acquisition, digital marketing, customer support, and much more.
These third-party partners will also have their titles integrated into the Jagex live operation ecosystem that includes its flagship series RuneScape. This announcement comes just ahead of one of the largest video game events in the world, Gamescom 2018, that takes place next week August 21 through 25 in Cologne, Germany.
Jagex is interested in PC, console, and mobile titles for its publishing initiative. Not only will it provide access to Western markets, it will also have the added benefit of offering access to the Chinese gaming market through its parent company Fu Kong Interactive. Interested third-party studios can find more information at this link.
Though Jagex is branching out into the publishing realm, RuneScape is sure to continue rising in popularity with the mobile version now available to users who have an active subscription with the game. Make sure to keep an eye for more news regarding the MMORPG and any future third-party publishing deals that come out of the Jagex Partners initiative.
