An unusual new mod has been released for Skyrim VR, entitled the “Immersive Winds VR” mod. This mod allows players to get even more immersed in the world of Cyrodiil… by using fans to let them experience the cold winds of Skyrim in reality.
The “Immersive Winds” Skyrim VR Mod
Skyrim VR was recently revealed to be the most played game on PlayStation VR. As such, the VR title clearly has a large and active audience. Now, if members of that audience feel that the VR headset isn’t quite immersive enough, there is this mod. The mod is available to download on NexusMods, where it was created by a modder who goes by “madrum”. In the mod description, madrum notes that; “This mod attempts to combine home automation with VR to enhance the immersion by switching a fan on or off depending on the current location you’re at in-game. You’ll need special hardware for this mod to function”. So, players will need to provide their own fans. In fact, you’ll need a 2.4GHz WLAN router, a TP-Link HS100 or HS110 Smart Plug, AND a fan.

The mod has two modes of activation; Simple and Intermittent. Simple Mode just switches on the fans when players are outside in Skyrim. Intermittent Mode, on the other hand, has seven different fan strengths (including off). The fans will be off when players are indoors. However, when players are outside or in caves, the mod will adjust the fan strength to an appropriate setting for the location. Note that users can customize these functions themselves. The mod actually uses a rather complex set of equations to determine fan strength. Madrum suggests that players use headphones so that the sound of fans doesn’t prove too distracting. Players can also set up extra fans for added immersion.
