Sea of Thieves developer Rare has released a new cinematic trailer for the game’s upcoming Forsaken Shores expansion which not only teases some of the expansion’s new gameplay features but also reveals exactly when it will go live.
In the trailer, viewers can see a lone sailor piloting a rowboat (one of Forsaken Shores’ new gameplay features) and singing a haunting shanty about a pirate crew (presumably his former comrades) as they sought to plunder riches from the Devil’s Roar region and wound up getting far more than they bargained for. The Devil’s Roar will be the new mainstay addition of the Forsaken Shores expansion, allowing brave players to venture into a fiery new biome where earthquakes, active volcanoes, and boiling seas will keep the foolhardy at bay.
The trailer also seems to reveal that those who sail into the Devil’s Roar and live to tell the tale will be able to earn themselves unique new rewards such as glowing armor pieces, face paint, weapon skins, and ship ornaments. Previously, Rare revealed that the Devil’s Roar will be so big that it will actually be split into three separate sub-regions, ensuring that there will be plenty of uncharted territory for players to sail into.
At this year’s Gamescom, Rare also confirmed that Forsaken Shores will launch later this month on September 19, and the above cinematic trailer also provides a more specific timeframe for when the expansion’s server’s will be flipped on. If you want to be among the first to hop into Forsaken Shores, make sure you’re around at 6 a.m. PST (9 a.m. EST) on the 19th.
Along with the Devil’s Roar, usable rowboats, and new cosmetic items, Forsaken Shores will presumably come with a brand new limited-time story event, so even if you can’t log in the moment the expansion launches, it will certainly pay to log in sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for more information closer to the expansion’s September 19 launch.
