Developer Sloclap has announced that the upcoming Downfall expansion for its martial arts adventure game Absolver will launch later this month on September 25. The expansion will include, among other things, the titular new Downfall PvE mode, a new combat style, and updated school mechanics.
The Downfall expansion’s September 25 release date was confirmed via this new PlayStation Blog post which was penned by Sloclap creative director Pierre Tarno. As was previously detailed, there are three major additions included in the Downfall expansion:
- Downfall: a solo/co-op PvE mode in which players venture down into the Adalian mines and face corrupted foes in a bid to ultimately take down the source of the corruption: a new villain named Arcell. By playing Downfall matches, players can earn a new currency called Gleam which can be redeemed for experience rewards, new gear, and the new Faejin combat style.
- Faejin: A brand new fighting style which draws influences from Bruce Lee’s martial arts philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. There will be a variety of new Faejin-based attacks for players to learn (spread across unarmed, sword, and war gloves moves), but Tarno warns that it will also be a highly complex style which will take some time to fully master.
- School Challenges: Absolver’s current School system will be revamped with School Challenges and leaderboard support, allowing those who are in a School to complete specific objectives and earn unique rewards during each competitive season.
Along with the three mainline additions above, the Downfall expansion will also naturally come with more in the way of collectible equipment sets, masks, PvP intros, emotes, and weapons. Sadly, Absolver fans who were hoping to one day wield their very own bo staff weapon will have to do without as Sloclap recently confirmed it has scrapped that particular feature.
