Destiny 2’s Year One PS4 Exclusives Are Now Available to All, But Players Aren’t Happy

Due to an ongoing timed exclusivity agreement between Sony and Activision, certain Destiny 2 features were only available to PlayStation 4 players during the game’s first year of operation. Now that the game’s second year has officially begun with the launch of the Forsaken expansion, the Year One items can now be enjoyed by the entire Destiny 2 playerbase, but some players are understandably upset over how a few of those items have been implemented.

Destiny 2's Year One exclusives are no longer exclusive.

To quickly recap, here is what was previously exclusive to Destiny 2’s PS4 version and now freely available to all players regardless of platform:

  • An Exotic sniper rifle called Borealis
  • Three Legendary armor sets (one for each of Destiny 2’s three Guardian classes)
  • A ship called City Apex
  • Two strikes: Lake of Shadows (from the base game) and Insight Terminus (from the Warmind expansion)
  • Two Crucible maps: Retribution (from the base game) and Wormhaven (from the Curse of Osiris expansion)

The problem that players have specifically relates to the three Legendary armor sets. According to reports from the official Destiny subreddit, the previously exclusive armor sets are still counted as Year One sets (even though they just recently became available to PC and Xbox One players) which means they’re tied to the old pre-Forsaken armor system. For those who don’t know, armor from the pre-Forsaken system lacks the built-in perks that make Forsaken’s new armor so coveted, essentially rendering it (and by extension the previously exclusive sets) virtually obsolete.

Granted, it’s a pretty minor issue overall, especially given some of the other problems players have discovered with the Forsaken expansion’s new additions, but it’s still understandable that players would be annoyed over having to wait an entire year for armor that’s not even worth getting anymore. Here’s hoping Bungie is as quick to address (and hopefully change) the issue as it has been with some of the other major problems players have found.
