CD Projekt Red Brings Back the Mimic Special Arena Mode to Gwent

Continuing the Season of the Warrior for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, CD Projekt Red has announced the latest Gwent Special Arena Mode. This new Special Arena Mode follows on from the Entertainment at Court Special Arena Mode which ran earlier this month. It is likely to be the last such mode before the end-of-season event. The mode this time is, in fact, a returning fan favorite; Mimic.

Mimic: The Latest Gwent Special Arena Mode

Mimic is a Special Arena Mode which has featured in Gwent before. The mode allows players to play using their opponent’s deck instead of their own cards. The Mimic Gwent Special Arena Mode will run for the next five days, concluding on the 24th of September. More specifically, it will end at 12:00 PM (noon) CEST. The mode was announced via an update on the official Gwent website; “Play with your opponent’s deck instead of your own,” says the update; “and turn their strength (or weakness…) to your advantage!”

Gwent Homecoming Will Launch Next Month

Given the timing, Mimic is likely to be the final Special Arena Mode before the end-of-season faction challenge. Typically, Gwent seasons (each one month long) end with a “Faction Challenge” where two factions are pitted against each other. The last Faction Challenge pitted Nilfgaard against Skellige, for example. Following the Faction Challenge, the next Gwent season will begin.

The next season will actually be the last before the launch of Gwent Homecoming, the long-awaited full release of the Witcher Card Game. CD Projekt Red announced the release date for Homecoming, along with the Thronebreaker standalone RPG, just a couple of days ago. They will both launch on the 23rd of October for PC. They will not launch for Xbox One or PlayStation 4 until the 4th of December, however. It’s presently unknown whether CD Projekt Red plans to continue with their established season and event format after the release of Homecoming.
