The latest Marvel movie, Avengers: Infinity War, released last week. It has also recently been discovered that an easter egg inspired by the film was hidden in God of War. Unlike other easter eggs, this one isn’t just a passing nod. Rather, it appears as a special item which takes a considerable amount of work to find and complete.
This easter egg is a special gauntlet called the ‘Gauntlet of the Shattered Ages.’ Just like Marvel villain Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet, Kratos can hunt down a set of magical stones in order to empower the item. Finding them all, however, is no easy task. To begin, you should speak to the dwarf Sindri. Once he gives you the Family Business quest, play through it to completion, whereupon he will reward you with the Shattered Gauntlet of the Ages.
The Shattered Gauntlet of the Ages
The Infinity Gauntlet is designed to hold all six of the Infinity Stones. Unfortunately, the Shattered Gauntlet can only hold three stones at a time, but it is still a powerful accessory; when three stones are set into the item, you are able to fire beams of energy out of it. The six stones, and their Marvel counterparts, are as follows.
- Andvari’s Soul (The Soul Stone)
- Asgard’s Shard of Existence (The Reality Stone)
- Eye of the Outer Realm (The Space Stone)
- Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind (The Mind Stone)
- Muspelheim Eye of Power (The Power Stone)
- Njord’s Temporal Stone (The Time Stone)
After acquiring the gauntlet, the next step is to upgrade it. For this, you will need to collect Dragon’s Tears. These items can be acquired by freeing God of War’s three dragons, killing the dragon Hraezlyr, and finally by looting one from Hraezlyr’s carcass later in the game. Once the Shattered Gauntlet is upgraded, you should begin collecting the stones.
Collecting the Stones
Andvari’s Soul is gained by completing the Second Hand Soul quest, given to you by Sindri’s brother Brok. Asgard’s Shard of Existence is given as a reward for slaying Rota, the valkyrie found in Helheim. The Eye of the Outer Realm can be found in Tyr’s Temple, the second time you visit that location. Ivaldi’s Corrupted Mind is a reward for defeating the valkyrie Olrun, who can be found in Alfheim. Muspelheim’s Eye of Power can simply be purchased from Brok and Sindri. Finally, Njord’s Temporal Stone is the most difficult one to acquire; the stone is a reward for defeating the Queen of the Valkyries.
Mixing and matching different stones has no discernible effect. Whichever three stones are fitted into the gauntlet, the accessory becomes a highly powerful ranged weapon.
