When Does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Take Place?

When does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey take place? It’s a good question, especially as the Assassins Creed franchise has taken liberties before with its historical accuracy. They have with Assassins Creed Odyssey, but inevitably there are a lot more truths than falsehoods. So, with that mind, take the game with a pinch of salt at times. Particularly when it comes to the unicorn skin for Phobos – unfortunately there were no unicorns in Ancient Greece.

The game has been out for two weeks now, but we’ll still be taking steps not to reveal anything that will spoil people. That said, sit back and relax and let us give you your very own history lesson.

When Does Assassins Creed Odyssey Take Place?

Assassins Creed Odyssey: When Does Assassins Creed Odyssey Take Place?

Assassins Creed Odyssey takes place during the Peloponnesian War, which occurred throughout 431 to 404 BC. The Peloponnesian War was between the Delian League (an association of Greek city-states) and the Peloponnesian League, led by Sparta. History paints a bleak picture, but in this game, you’re able to understand the motives of the Spartans and Athenians.

As everyone knows, you’re thrust into the role of Alexios or Kassandra. Regardless of who you choose to ally with, they both play a pivotal role in the war and have the power to change the outcome.

This is where things get a little murky, as we aren’t given an exact date on when the game takes place, and thus are only given events. What we can be sure of is that the war is still in its early stages, as when you start the game it still isn’t obvious who is winning the war.

So, while we do not have a definite date for when the game takes place, we know it is during the Peloponnesian War.

But does this mean we’ll get a more definite day in DLC? Only the future will tell.
