Fans can now get their first look at gameplay footage from the Battlefield 5 War Stories campaign. The footage was recorded as part of the EA Game Changers program, and released online by YouTuber Westie. The video features 10 minutes of War Stories gameplay as well as Westie’s thoughts and analysis of three of the four different campaign missions.
10 Minutes of Battlefield 5 War Stories Gameplay
Until now, despite the game releasing in just over one month’s time, fans had not seen any War Stories gameplay. A trailer for the single player mode was only released a couple of days ago; that was the first that fans saw of anything to do with War Stories. Like Battlefield 1, from which DICE learned a great deal, Battlefield 5’s War Stories will each tell a separate, self-contained story. Three will feature in the game at launch, with the fourth coming in December.
Westie’s gameplay includes footage from the first three War Stories; Tirailleur, Under No Flag, and Nordlys. From his description of what he got to play, Tirailleur is the one most akin to Battlefield 5’s multiplayer. The mission tells the story of Senegalese colonial troops fighting against the Nazis in France, and features some huge and chaotic battles. Nordlys, on the other hand, is almost a direct opposite. The mission emphasises stealth, as players take on the role of a Norwegian resistance fighter. The story will revolve around the protagonist rescuing her mother from the Nazis and also sabotaging a plant involved in the production of nuclear weaponry.
Under No Flag appears to be something of a mix of the two; allowing for stealth or more ‘guns blazing’ styles of play. Interestingly, it will be the only War Story with English voice acting, as it’s the only one where English is the native language of the main characters. Finally, Westie does mention the Battlefield 5 Prologue, which he was unable to record. Apparently, the Prologue will throw players into a variety of different scenarios all across WWII.
