New Witcher 3 Mod Adds Lens Flare From the Game’s 2013 E3 Trailer

A new Witcher 3 mod, originally released at the start of the month, has now received a notable new update. The “E3 Flares” mod is a graphics mod which adds lens flare to the game; explicitly in a manner intentionally reminiscent of the game’s 2013 E3 trailer. The new update brings better and cleaner textures to help avoid pixelation.

The New “E3 Flares” Witcher 3 Mod

The “E3 Flares” Witcher mod was originally released a few weeks ago on NexusMods by a modder who goes by SilentM00n. The latest update, Update 1.2, adds two new versions to the mod; “Version no.1 includes a new upscaled and cleaned up texture made by Tylor that gets rid of any potential pixelation with the flares,” explains SilentM00n; “Version 2 includes the STLM flare texture for those who wants completely recreate the STLM flare experience with another lighting mod.”

The purpose of this particular mod, as stated by the modder, is to; “bring back the anamorphic lens flare seen in the E3 2013 debut trailer”; that particular visual effect didn’t end up being part of the game. However, with this new mod, you can play a version of the game with some visually gorgeous lens flare effects. The modder recommends that players use the mod alongside the More Shadows and More Shadows for Toussaint mods. These are also available on NexusMods.

New Witcher 3 Mod Adds Lens Flare

The trailer on which the mod was based debuted at E3 2013; two years prior to the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s evident from the footage that the game’s graphics got an upgrade between the trailer release and the launch. The lens flare evident in the lighting was most likely removed as the game’s graphics were tweaked and improved. It may well be an instance exactly like this which was why CD Projekt Red was hesitant to release gameplay footage of Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 this year; the studio said on several occasions that they didn’t want fans to think that its unfinished state was what it would actually look like at launch.
