Red Dead Redemption 2 Moose Locations: Where to Find Moose in RDR2

Moose in Red Dead Redemption 2 are as majestic as they are rare, which makes hunting them a challenge. The moose’s massive size belays its gentle nature, almost making you feel guilty for hunting it in the first place. However, such is the circle of life in RDR2, and they are just digital moose after all. Plus, their pelts can sell for a pretty penny, which should hopefully alleviate some of your guilt.

In this guide, we’ll show you the best spots for finding moose in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Moose Locations

Despite their rarity, there are actually two different moose varieties which can be found. There’s the standard Western Moose and also the Western Bull Moose. Oddly enough, the two different varieties don’t really intermingle that much. Therefore, make sure you calibrate your hunting efforts to match the type you’re after.

Where to Find Moose in Red Dead Redemption 2

In general, moose can be found in the following areas:

  • Cairn Lake which is north of the “M” in “Ambarino” on your map.
  • In the Tall Trees region west of Blackwater.
  • Along the Dakota River southwest of Valentine.
  • In the Roanoke Valley north of Annesburg.

The Tall Trees and Dakota River spots are the best places to find Western Bull Moose. You’ll find more Western Moose in the other spots listed. Western Moose can also appear at Tall Trees and the Dakota River but they’re less common than Bull Moose.

Moose in Red Dead Redemption 2 can be surprisingly elusive.

Western Bull Moose are often more lucrative targets since you can harvest both their pelts and antlers. However, even standard Western Moose can provide high-quality pelts for crafting. Just make sure you study your potential targets from afar to determine their pelt quality. Also, since moose are classified as massive animals, you’ll want to use specific weaponry and ammunition. A rifle with a long scope attached is a good option, but it’s also quite loud. If you favor a stealthier approach, craft some improved arrows for your bow.
