So, you critically injured your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2. We’ve all been there. Though this is one of Rockstar’s best feeling games to date, the controls still often put up a fight at inopportune times. And, sometimes a scuffle with your Dualshock 4 will mean an unforeseen cliff dive for your trusty steed.
These moments may, at first, leave you feeling helpless. Your beloved horse is down and out. You’re miles away from the nearest town. And all your valuables are in your saddle (a saddle which will slow you down considerably if you try to carry it).
Never fear! There’s an easy way to revive your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2. And if you don’t manage to do it in time, don’t bother with the saddle. Your valuables will automatically transfer to your next horse.

How to Revive Your Horse in Red Dead Redemption 2
Arthur Morgan is no Boy Scout, but following the Scouts’ motto makes life an awful lot easier in RDR2. Be prepared. When your horse is critically injured, you’ll need Horse Revive. You can find it at any General Store in the game. But, if you don’t have it in your satchel at the moment your horse goes down, unfortunately, you’re out of luck.
If you do have it handy, reviving your horse is simple. Stand by your horse and you’ll notice two options are available. On the one hand, if you don’t have Horse Revive, you can put your horse out of their misery. Select, Kill and Arthur will knife his trusted steed.
The other option, Revive, will appear at the same time. Select this option, and Arthur will give his horse the tonic.
That’s it! Your horse will slowly stand back up and you can get back to your journey. Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
