What does the future of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 hold? Why did it release sooner than usual? Did it sell well? All those questions and more were answered during the latest Activision financial call for the company’s third quarter.
CharlieIntel, a famous source for Call of Duty news and rumors, has shared information about the contents of the Activision financial call. The bits about Black Ops 4 were particularly interesting, as they show what happens behind the scene and how its team will proceed in the future.
During the Activision financial call, CEO Robert A. Kotick revealed that Black Ops 4 was released sooner so that more players will be playing during the holiday season.
That’s one interesting bit to share, since it shows that the company has a certain way to approach sales and traffic in their games. Additionally, Activision says they have a lot of great content for Call of Duty coming in 2019.

In aspect of the game’s contents, the publisher shares that the “triple AAA” battle royale mode, along with MP and Zombies will keep players engaged on the long run. They will continue supporting Black Ops 4 as a live service title.
Here are some more bit discussed during the Activision financial call, as reported by CharlieIntel:
- Black Ops 4 sold-through more units than Black Ops III, with PC sell-through more than three times higher. Additionally for the first three weeks after launch, total active users and hours played were 16% and over 20% higher respectively, versus Black Ops III.
- In October, Activision Blizzard had seven of the top 20 most viewed games on Twitch, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 where viewership continues to break franchise records.
- Activision Blizzard CEO said they want to apply their learnings from Overwatch League to Call of Duty esports.
- Activision Blizzard made $4 billion this year from in-game content sales. They are making almost $1 billion per quarter from in-game content sales, called net bookings.
It’s nice to see Activision recognising that Black Ops 4 needs to be supported on the long run. This means that even after Call of Duty 2019, we can expect Blackout to exist.
