Several weeks after the launch of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, CD Projekt Red has released a new Thronebreaker trailer to celebrate the game’s accolades. The trailer’s launch also coincides with the launch of Thronebreaker on Steam. Since launch, Thronebreaker has received extremely positive reviews.
The New Thronebreaker Trailer Celebrates the Game’s Accolades
The Thronebreaker Official Accolades Trailer quotes a number of publications and what they had to say about the game; high praise in every case. Despite being a very different game than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, featuring card game -style combat derived from the Gwent card game, Thronebreaker has received high review scores. Its Metacritic score is presently 85, based on the average of 41 critics’ reviews. By comparison, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has an average score of 92. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has a slightly lower score of 88.
Despite such a dramatic change of gameplay structure, Thronebreaker seems to have been well-received by fans as well. Sales data for the game is not available, so we don’t know how well it has performed in that area. However, fan feedback has seemed to have been mostly positive. Its Metacritic average user score is currently 7.7/10.
While Thronebreaker may lack the combat mechanics of the core Witcher series, the lore and story are as detailed as one would expect to find in a core title. For fans of the Witcher lore, Thronebreaker also includes a lot of firsts. Four of the game’s five regions have never before appeared in a Witcher game; Angren, Lyria, Mahakam and Rivia. Additionally, as the game takes place just prior to The Witcher 2, long-term fans get to see a lot of old characters returning. Of course, Geralt of Rivia himself makes an appearance too.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales launched on Steam earlier this week and is already available on GOG.com. A console release on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is scheduled for the 4th of December.
