Fortifications are one of the most significant new gameplay features coming in Battlefield 5. The feature allows players to alter the map around them with things like sandbag walls, barbed wire, and boards to cover windows. With the destructible nature of the game’s maps, Battlefield 5 fortifications let you fortify wherever you and your squad need to hunker down during a match.
How to Build Battlefield 5 Fortifications
Fortifications are a gameplay feature which are available to everyone; at present, only the Support class has benefits relating to Fortifications, although DICE has said that they are open to adding more varied Class Specialisations post-launch. It’s certainly feasible that they could add one or more Specialisations to help players deploy Fortifications faster or with greater durability. For now, the Support class is the one best-suited for building Fortifications. They can build faster, and some Fortifications can only be built by Support soldiers, including machine gun stands.
To set up one of the new Battlefield 5 Fortifications, you’ll first need to equip your Build Tool. You can’t simply build wherever you wish; instead, you’ll be able to see grey outlines indicating where different Fortifications can be built. These are also displayed on the in-game minimap. The larger fortifications, such as trenches or tank traps, will take longer than more simple ones like merely boarding up a window. As such, players should take cover before building.
One very important thing which you can build are Resupply Stations and Medic Stations. Players can go to these to stock up on ammo and medic pouches. Given that all players start with limited resources, these Stations are key for supporting your team during a match. Bear in mind, however, that all Fortifications can be destroyed, just like much of the terrain in Battlefield 5. As such, you may not wish to build important Stations close to enemy fire; especially in places where tanks or explosives can quickly destroy them.
