Ever since the launch of Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion, console players have noticed a severe increase in menu loading times. In a recent This Week at Bungie blog post (https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/47398), Bungie stated that it plans to address the issue. Specifically, console loading times should improve after an update which Bungie plans to deploy sometime next month.
Destiny 2 Long Console Loading Times Fix
Within the blog post, Bungie engineer Ben Thompson explained the cause of the longer console loading times. It seems the more frequent patching cadence which Bungie implemented as part of Forsaken is straining the game’s loading processes. As a result, the following system routines have been suffering from drastically longer load times (text courtesy of Bungie):
- Starting up the game, signing on, and selecting your character.
- Loading into activities and traveling throughout a destination.
- Loading the player inventory screen and switching between UI tabs.
Fortunately, Bungie has a fix in the works for these longer console loading times. The fix is currently scheduled to launch alongside the debut of Destiny 2’s fifth content season. An exact launch date for the fix hasn’t been announced as of this writing. However, Destiny 2’s fourth content season ends on November 27. Going by Bungie’s previous release cadence, reports point to a December 5 launch date for Season 5 and the fix.
Bungie’s latest weekly update also detailed upcoming changes to certain Forsaken super abilities such as Chaos Reach and Spectral Blades. Tomorrow also marks the beginning of Season 4’s final Iron Banner event, so get in and slay while you can.
December is also when Destiny 2’s Black Armory mini-expansion will launch. Some recent data mining suggests that Black Armory includes a series of beloved Exotics from the original Destiny. Meanwhile, PC gamers can currently grab a free copy of Destiny 2’s base version. The free PC copy offer only lasts until November 18, but those who claim the offer can keep it forever.
