How to Best Play the Recon Class in Battlefield 5

While the three soldier classes of Assault, Medic, and Support all occupy a relatively similar area when it comes to range, the Battlefield 5 Recon class is the sole exception. Recon class soldiers are the only ones who have access to long-range weapons, making them invaluable as spotters and snipers. Indeed, having a Recon in your squad is ideal in most scenarios, especially on larger maps like Hamada and Twisted Steel.

How You Can Best Play the Battlefield 5 Recon Class

While the Assault, Support, and Medic soldiers dash around in close-to-medium range combat, the Battlefield 5 Recon class is a bit less hectic. You’ll need to hone your long-range accuracy through scopes to get precise kills and spot enemies for the rest of your squad. However, you can’t simply pick a high position and sit there for the entire match. Due to the Attrition system, you won’t want to stray too far from your squad and other sources of ammunition and healing items.

The Battlefield 5 Recon Combat Roles are Very Different

When it comes to weapons, both of the Recon’s options tend toward long range and single shots. The class’ two primary weapon categories are Bolt Action Rifles and Self-Loading Rifles. You’ll also have access to a Spotting Scope, letting you mark targets for your allies as well. The two Combat Roles take very different approaches, however. Sniper is the default Combat Role. This role gives you the Steady Hands ability; letting you keep your scope steady for longer when you hold your breath. It also gives you Expert Marksman. This replenishes a portion of the duration which you can steady your scope for every time you score a headshot.

The second Combat Role, which unlocks via progression, is Pathfinder. Where a Sniper might hang back as their squad advances, the Pathfinder does the precise opposite; ranging ahead of their squad to set up Spawn Beacons. Their Advance Scouting ability allows them to spawn on other friendly squad leaders. Additionally, when they use Spawn Beacons, the beacons are usable by any allied soldier, not just their squad-mates. Pathfinders also get the Vanguard ability, which awards them extra Requisition Points every time someone spawns on their Spawn Beacon.
