If you follow the posts over at r/FortNiteBR, you may be aware that a post made just yesterday has generated massive controversy. The post alleges that Ninja caused a player to be banned, and that Epic Games shows favoritism toward the streamer. There are already more than 44,000 upvotes.
This Situation With Ninja Has Become a Real Mess
The Reddit post states, “This is not clickbait. Ninja got a player banned for having higher ping. Epic just banned the player only cause Ninja reported him. This is proof that Epic BANS anyone who Ninja reports and does not review the player. This is so f****** stupid. Epic Games is extremely careless.”
The post is accompanied by a video from Ninja’s stream. Apparently what happened was this. Another player took out Ninja in a match. Ninja noted the player’s high ping time, and reported him, claiming this was why he lost. His intent was to make a joke, not get the player banned.
Unfortunately, Ninja recently was involved in another controversy where he apparently reported a player for stream sniping him. So when the second story emerged, everyone went after Ninja.
Epic Games Responded to the Situation
When Epic Games heard about what happened, they took to Reddit to respond. It turns out the situation was mega-complicated. They posted:
“There are two accounts involved in this: Account A which was the account originally reported by Ninja and Account B which is tied to a YouTube video we discovered
On Oct 2nd, Account B was disabled for reasons unrelated to player reporting.
On Oct 3rd, Account A was reported by Ninja. It was investigated and not actioned due to lack of evidence.
On Oct 4th, Account A changed their display name away from the name reported on October 3.
On Nov 13th, Account B was re-enabled based on a review of the underlying system.
On Nov 17th, account B changed their display name to match the display name of account A at the time of Ninja’s report.
We became aware of a YouTube video claiming that we banned (and then unbanned) account B based on Ninja’s report, which is false. We hope this clears up the sequence of actions.”
Long story short, it looks like somebody went out of their way to engineer this situation. They changed the name of their account in order to try and frame Ninja and Epic Games.
It just goes to show that you should not believe everything you read online. Controversy gets clicks, and everyone has their enemies. That is why we do our best at VGR to make it clear whether something is really news or is just a rumor. Keep up with Fortnite news on our feed.
