FIFA 19 Title Update 4 Brings Welcome Changes to AI Defending, More

Gamers will be quite pleased with the new FIFA 19 title update released on Tuesday, November 20. So far, the latest title update is only for the PC version of the popular football game. However, it’s a sign of what’s to come very soon for the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox versions of the FIFA 19 game. That includes a major update to how the AI defense will work in the FIFA gameplay as well as some other nifty improvements.

FIFA 19 Title Update nerfs AI defending issues

In a previous FIFA update, unrealistic kicks and goalie issues got fixes. The biggest changes made within the new FIFA 19 title update are with regards to a reduction of how effective AI teammates are on defense. As EA mentions “AI teammate” is a player out on the pitch who the gamer isn’t controlling. It also refers to any teammate out on the pitch that isn’t the CPU AI controlled player.

The patch introduces new logic where an AI teammate’s defense for shot blocking or tackling is now less effective. They’ve reduced the distance the AI defender stretches to shot block or tackle. The reason this is welcome is it will cut down on the defensive issues encountered in Squad Battles or other aspects of the game. Gamers are certainly celebrating this highly-requested change to the gameplay, though.

FIFA 19 Title Update: Fatigue, Tackling, & Passing

In addition to the nerfed AI defense updates, there are also updates in these three areas of FIFA 19. For example, fatigue will now become more of a factor when gamers use more defensive pressure as their strategy.

Gamers are going to notice this effect for using team press or using a game plan with constant defensive pressure. Since both of these gamelans are common in online competition, it could make things much more interesting for FIFA Ultimate Team mode.

As far as tackling, they appear to have improved the effectiveness of a well-timed tackle. Gamers now have more incentive to switch to a defender they weren’t controlling. With the update, it could make sense to go for a tackle in an effort to get the ball away from opponents.

In one other AI update, the CPU AI controlled players will now make less “first-time passes” in their defensive third of the pitch (on Legendary or Ultimate). When gamers face the computer in these difficulty levels, they won’t be at as much of a disadvantage for gaining possession.
