YouTuber Brings Perfect Preston Garvey Cosplay to Fallout 76

Without human NPCs in Fallout 76, some players have embraced the opportunity to roleplay, portraying their characters as traders or other individuals within West Virginia. One player in particular, a YouTuber who goes by “RpTheHotRod,” has taken a particularly perfect approach. Indeed, the YouTuber was able to create a Fallout 76 Preston Garvey by cosplaying the character and broadcasting cut-together lines of dialogue from Fallout 4.

RpTheHotRod’s Fallout 76 Preston Garvey Cosplay

The character of Preston Garvey is one of the first NPCs whom players meet in Fallout 4. He quickly became infamous among fans for his repetitive dialogue. As the primary mission contact for the Minutemen faction; Garvey constantly attempts to send players off to help beleaguered settlements. RpTheHotRod has taken the meme to a new level, however, by bringing it to Fallout 76 themselves. In a video entitled, “No escaping Preston Garvey, no matter what state or time you run to,” the YouTuber shows clips of his in-game experiences as the Commonwealth Minuteman.

According to the YouTuber, he has a selection of audio clips taken from Garvey’s Fallout 4 dialogue. By broadcasting these over the in-game voice chat, he is able to engage other players in conversation; “A pack of ghouls has holed up near a settlement,” he says, in-game, to a clearly amused player; “you better see if they need any help defending themselves!”

RpTheHotRod’s cosplay is particularly excellent. Unfortunately, with no push-to-talk function available on PC for voice chat, many players are playing with voices muted. Bethesda has promised to bring such a feature in a future update, and it should come relatively soon. Unfortunately, widespread bugs appear to have soured the experience of Fallout 76 for many, although Bethesda does at least seem to be acting quickly to remedy as much as they can. Hopefully the studio is able to address enough concerns to turn the perception of the game around for those put off so far.
