There’s been oodles of new, tantalising details unveiled today at Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4’s recent official reveal. Specifically, the uber-popular Zombies mode is getting a ton of changes.
The most significant piece of Zombies news is that Black Ops 4 will launch with “three fully-fledged, fully-loaded Zombie experiences on day one,” according to Treyarch. It looks like this new iteration of Zombies will feature four brand-new characters, a bunch of new creepy looking undead monsters to defeat and a brand-new nefarious organisation that’ll be eerily pulling the strings in the background.
These three campaigns look like they’ll be integrating in the series’ staple of inter-dimensional time-travel and introduce players to some new timelines.
First up is Nine, which is a map set in an Egyptian gladiatorial arena which looks like it’ll trade in the guns and explosions for a more melee-focused gameplay experience. In the trailer, the four new characters are armed with swords and maces, which is a big shift for the series.
Next up is the map Voyage Of Despair, which sees you battling the living dead on-board the doomed, historic cruise-liner, the Titanic. After a demonic power is unleashed, the crew and passengers aboard the iconic ship are violently turned into the walking dead. “The iceberg is the least of their worries,” mentioned Treyarch.
A third map dubbed Blood Of The Dead was also teased, but unfortunately very little was actually shown in the tease at the reveal event. Treyarch did drop the hint that this map may relate to the original four characters from the OG Zombies series, and may even possibly be an older classic map from the series’ past.
Another very interesting tidbit from the reveal was the confirmation that Black Ops 4’s Zombies will be the first to feature AI-controlled friendly team-mates for those who don’t have a friend around to team up with.
Also, customisation options will be vast and diverse. Players will be able to tailor their Zombies experience to however they see fit, as well as change the overall difficulty mode if they so wish.
Stay tuned to VGR as we’ll be sure to let you know when more information comes to light as we get closer to Black Ops 4’s release date on October 12th.
