Fallout 76 doesn’t have factions in the way that most Bethesda fans will be accustomed to. However, there are a couple of factions which are either tied to the game’s main story (the Enclave, the Responders, the Fire Breathers, etc.). There is also one faction which exists as a standalone faction; the Order of Mysteries. This faction’s quests are categorised as side quests, but they do follow a linear progression. To join the faction and get started, you’ll need to first track down the Order of Mysteries headquarters. Once you’ve done that, you can start the Fallout 76 Initiate of Mysteries side quest.
How to Complete the Fallout 76 Initiate of Mysteries Side Quest
This quest begins when you reach the secret headquarters of the Order of Mysteries beneath Riverside Manor. Here, you can use one of the central terminals to register as an Initiate of the Order. This will grant you the “Order of Mysteries – Rank: Initiate,” Holotape, which you can listen to on your Pip-Boy. After doing so, use the terminal again and select the “Database Queries,” topic, before selecting “Initiate Mentor Assignment.”
To complete the assignment, you now need to head to Lewisburg, a town in Ash Heap. Before you leave, be sure to use the Fabricator in the Order’s base. You can use this machine to turn your Worn Veil into a Veil of Secrets. This item prevents damaging effects and diseases caused by toxic air, an invaluable boon in Lewisburg. The air in this town is toxic, and will cause damage over time if you enter without the veil or some other solution.
Clear out the ghouls which are dwelling in the derelict ruins of Lewisburg and then look for the body of Natasha Hunt. She can be found beside a Nuka-Cola machine which sits beside an ice cream sign on a street corner; that of W. Foster St. Hunt has both a holotape and her password login on her person; you’ll need to take both. From her body, cross the street and use an alleyway staircase to climb to the roof of the building opposite. Here you can find Kerry’s body and retrieve “Kerry’s Orders.”
Return for Your Reward
With everything retrieved from Lewisburg, you can head back to the Riverside Manor. If you use the terminal, you’ll learn that only your Order superior is permitted to promote you. However, because you have Natasha Hunt’s login password, you can log into the terminal as her and promote yourself. Select “Administrative Actions,” followed by “Authorise Promotion,” and you’ll earn the rank of Novice. Note that you can also use Hunt’s login to access the infirmary terminal. This will allow you to open a nearby safe. Use the password on the Council Chamber terminal to read more about the Order of Mysteries. Completing this quest will earn you random aid items and ammo. Additionally, you can now use the fabricator to craft a Garb of Mysteries.
