After you complete the First Contact main quest, soon after starting Fallout 76, you’ll arrive in Flatwoods and register as a Responder. To prove that you have the necessary survival skills for the organisation, you must complete a series of quests; each one designed to teach you about one of the game’s core mechanics. Once you complete Thirst Things First, where you learn how to boil water, you’ll start the Fallout 76 Second Helpings main quest. Similar to the last quest, Second Helpings teaches you about cooking and the game’s new hunger mechanic.
How to Complete the Fallout 76 Second Helpings Main Quest
Once you complete Thirst Things First at the registration kiosk, you’ll automatically start the Fallout 76 Second Helpings quest. Your first task is to find Delbert Winters, who you can search for using the kiosk’s directory. Delbert lived in a trailer on the southern side of Flatwoods. You can find the deceased reverend inside, next to his terminal. Collect Delbert’s password from his body and then access the terminal, which contains the training instructions for new recruits.
Your task is to cook a Ribeye Steak. To do this, you need to find Brahmin Meat, which you can get from any dead Brahmin. There should be a few of these two-headed mutant cattle roaming near the trailer, so simply kill one of them and collect its meat. Once you have the required ingredient you need to find a cooking station; there’s one just outside the Flatwoods tavern, in the parking lot. By combining the Brahmin Meat with 1 Wood, you can cook yourself a Ribeye Steak. Cooking food is a vital skill in Fallout 76. Unlike previous Fallout games, you actually have hunger and thirst in Fallout 76, meaning you need to keep yourself well-fed. Go too long without eating or drinking and you’ll start to take significant penalties.
Having completed Delbert’s training, make your way back to the registration kiosk. You can now become a fully-fledged Volunteer in the Responders and complete the Second Helpings quest. This will reward you with Wood, a Tinker’s Workbench Plan, a random aid item, and random ammo. You can also now access a new section of the kiosk terminal, allowing you to attempt contact with the Responders Headquarters. You’ll get an emergency message, and then you can set out on the Final Departure quest.
