At the end of Uncle Sam, you’re left standing deep in a Deathclaw nest at the entrance to a bunker you can’t open. Truly, there are better places to find oneself. You need to find a way into Sam Blackwell’s mysterious bunker, and that task forms most of the Fallout 76 Bunker Buster main quest.
How to Complete the Fallout 76 Bunker Buster Main Quest
The Fallout 76 Bunker Buster as soon as you complete Uncle Sam. Your first task is to search the immediate area for clues, and if you look in the north corner of the cavern you should find a body. On this body is the “Operation Summary – Blackwell Holotape,” which should give you some useful information. Essentially, you need to find a Bypass Holotape to open the bunker. Search the nearby Deathclaw Nests which are scattered around the cave. One of these should contain the Bypass Holotape. Get in the elevator and then play the Holotape on your Pip-Boy. This should give you access to the controls.
Descend into the bunker and make your way through a set of doors until you find a laser grid. You’ve only breached the first layer of security. Head back into the main room and take a right turn. Follow that corridor until you find a room filled with pipes and machines. A nearby terminal can be used to shut down the laser grid, but it’s locked. You can either hack the terminal or cause the system to reboot.
To reboot the system, you need to return to the metal walkway in the room you were last in, then climb out over the ventilation ducts to reach a switch on the wall. Activate this, then head back to the first main room and pass through the left-hand door and look for a circuit breaker panel on the wall. Open the lid and activate the breaker. Finally, go back and cross the main room, pass through the door, and turn left. In the top corner of the room, on the left, you should see a yellow valve which you can turn. At this stage, the system should restart. In either case, head back to the laser grid and register yourself using the nearby hand scanner.
Inside the Bunker
Inside the bunker, you’ll find a room filled with filing cabinets. A keypad is set into the dividing wall, but you’re going to need to figure out the code. If you search the cabinets you should come across three notes; the “Senate Orientation Letter,” the “Intelligence Memo – 8/16/77,” and the “Record of Divorce: The Blackwells”. You can also read the “Judy’s Gone” note on the terminal. One of these notes contains the code you need to use the keypad; it isn’t too difficult to find the right one, and if you’re unsure, there’s no penalty for inputting the wrong code.
After you put the code in, head over to the painting which is marked with an objective marker. You can collect the “Welcome to the Whitespring Holotape,” and a Congressional Access Card. This will complete Bunker Buster, and you’ll get random ammo, aid items, and a random armour mod as rewards. Best of all, you’ll get a Deathclaw Gauntlet, one of the best melee weapons in the game! The next quest, One of Us, should start automatically. It’s time to open up the Enclave HQ.
