A few months ago, we reported on a newly announced asymmetrical horror game called Last Year: The Nightmare. The game, which was developed by Elastic Games, pits five survivor players against a sixth player controlling multiple killers. If that sounds like your jam, you’ll be happy to know Last Year: The Nightmare is available right now.
Last Year: The Nightmare Discord Store Launch
For its initial launch, Last Year: The Nightmare is only available via the Discord Store at a $29.99 price point. However, Elastic Games has plans to bring it to other digital PC storefronts down the road.
Last Year utilizes a format akin to games like Dead by Daylight or Friday the 13th: The Game. Five players must team up and control different survivor classes (Assault, Medic, etc.) as they confront a sixth player. The sixth player, meanwhile, controls a number of different killer archetypes, each with their own unique abilities and intended playstyles.
The survivor players can craft armaments such as traps and melee weapons to fight the killers directly. Every time a killer is defeated, the player respawns as a different killer, forcing them to adapt on the fly. The killer player also utilizes a ‘Predator Mode’ which lets them zip around the map and pick their spawn points.
Currently, Last Year: The Nightmare is somewhat barebones with only three killers, five survivors, and three maps. However, Elastic Games has already outlined how it will be expanding the game throughout 2019. Players can expect the following the new features throughout the upcoming year:
- New playable survivors and killers
- New map packs, each with a distinct horror movie theme
- A progression system that allows players to unlock new abilities and perks
- A new game mode
- Dedicated servers and cross-play support across different PC gaming services
That last bullet point means friends can play together no matter where specifically they buy Last Year: The Nightmare. Elastic Games hasn’t revealed where else Last Year is coming to, but Steam and the Epic Store are likely candidates. Those who buy the initial Discord Store version, however, unlock access to Discord-exclusive character skins.
