How to Complete Battlefield 5 Grand Operations and Modes Event

It’s another week, and for Battlefield 5, that means another Chapter Event for Overture, the first chapter of Tides of War. Following on from last week’s Vehicles and Classes event, the new event is entitled Grand Operations and Modes. The new event focuses on the Grand Operations game mode, and offers the Ag m/42 semi-automatic rifle as a reward; a new weapon usable by the Assault class.

How to Complete Battlefield 5 Grand Operations and Modes: Central Path

As with every Battlefield 5 Chapter Event, you must complete a series of challenges to reach the end reward. You don’t need to complete every challenge, however. Instead, you need only complete a sequence of challenges as you work your way along a path of objectives. For Grand Operations and Modes, there are three paths you can follow; a central path, and two alternate side-paths. Whatever you choose, you’ll need to start by completing The Grand Scheme and then PTFGO. After PTFGO, you can choose to follow the central path and undertake Shape the Battle. See the section below for the side-path challenges.

Battlefield 5 Chapter Event Focuses on Grand Operations

  • The Grand Scheme: This is an easy objective; all you need to do is complete a single Grand Operation. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on the winning or losing side, or what map you play on.
  • PTFGO: Every day of a Grand Operation has a different set of in-game objectives, and completing them earns you objective score. For this challenge, you need to earn a score of at least 2,600 in a Grand Operation. Focus on completing objectives during the match rather than simply fighting, and this shouldn’t prove too difficult.
  • Shape the Battle: This challenge requires you to build 5 Fortifications in the objective areas of a Grand Operation. These areas are typically around flags, control points, or certain strategic sites. For an easier time with this challenge, be sure to play a Support soldier with the Engineer Combat Role.
  • Greater Purpose: After completing Shape the Battle, you need to complete Greater Purpose. This challenge requires you to capture 3 points in a Grand Operation. Control Points appear in the Breakthrough, Conquest, and Frontlines modes on certain days of the operation. Work with your team to seize control of the points, as they’re likely to be focal points of the battle.
  • Rejection: Once you seize the Control Points during Greater Purpose, you now need to defend them! To complete Rejection, you need to score 5 kills while defending an objective. This challenge only counts kills if your target is in an objective area which your team controls, or if you are in the objective area yourself when you score the kill.
  • Iron Ore: To complete Grand Operations and Modes and get the Ag m/42, you simply need to win a Grand Operation. So long as you’re on the winning side on the final day of the Operation, you will complete this challenge.

How to Complete Battlefield 5 Grand Operations and Modes: Side-Paths

If you don’t want to take on Shape the Battle and Greater Purpose, you have two alternate side-paths to go down. You can either do Practice Makes Precise and Domination, or Explosive Steps and Infiltrate and Destroy. Either way, you’ll eventually reach the Rejection and Iron Ore challenges, detailed above.

  • Practice Makes Precise: If you’d rather focus on infantry fighting rather than Grand Operations, this is the route to take. The Practice Makes Precise challenge requires you to score 10 headshot kills in the Team Deathmatch mode.
  • Domination: This challenge requires you to earn a total score of at least 15,000 in the Dominion game mode. This mode features only infantry, with no vehicles. The mode is objective-based; that means you need to focus on claiming and holding Control Points to build up your score.
  • Explosive Steps: Instead of building Fortifications in Shape the Battle, you can focus on blowing things up with this path. Explosive Steps requires you to kill 3 enemies with grenades or explosives. Any explosive kill with a grenade or explosive gadget will count, including mines and dynamite, etc.
  • Infiltrate and Destroy: To complete this challenge, you and your squad simply need to arm a Bomb. This can only be done in the Airborne and Frontlines game modes, where you use bombs to destroy objectives. You or a member of your squad simply needs to set a bomb on an objective, which will start a countdown. The bomb will need to detonate successfully, so be sure to stop any enemies attempting to disarm it.
