Marvel’s Ultimate Alliance franchise has always included some villains who join the heroes on the roster of playable characters. For the most part, though a large portion of the villains in the Marvel universe need to be reserved for the various boss fights, both big and small. While not much is known about the cast of Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, there are frames that can be pulled from the announcement trailer that can clue fans in as to who may be opposing the heroes in the upcoming title.
The Black Order
Although the title of the game gives their presence away, the trailer does offer a glimpse at the Black Order. Thanos’ personal lieutenants of death can be seen standing menacingly and leading an alien horde to lay waste to Earth. The titular villains will no doubt be seen in greater detail as the game nears its unannounced release date. The powerful team consists of Corvus Glaive, Ebony Maw, Proxima Midnight, Black Dwarf, and Supergiant, and seems to be accompanied in part by Thanos’ daughter Nebula. Through a combination of tactical prowess, telepathic manipulation, and sheer strength, the Black Order will undoubtedly aim to assist Thanos in accomplishing his ultimate goal.
Spider-Man’s Foes
Spider-Man’s list of enemies reaches far, from the criminal underworld to super-powered masterminds, and this spectrum is clearly represented in Ultimate Alliance 3’s announcement trailer. First Sandman makes his appearance in the form of a boss fight where he towers over the heroes battling him as he strikes with his iconic hammer fist. Green Goblin can be seen with a menacing grin on his face and the Time Stone in hand, indicating a larger role in the game’s central plot. Kingpin is also present in the trailer to round out the list of famed foes of the web-slinger, and while he is featured for the least amount of time, his part in the game should not be underestimated.
Ultron
Seen in the announcement trailer battling the Avengers on the top of Stark Tower, Ultron’s presence in the title marks yet another formidable foe for the heroes. A staple in the Marvel universe, the AI gone rogue can be seen with the Mind Stone in his possession. This, along with Green Goblin’s possession of the Time Stone could mean many other antagonists are present simply to fulfill their role in Thanos’ master plan by gathering the Infinity Stones.
Sentinels
The Sentinels are the Marvel universe’s premier mutant killing machines. Developed by the government to hunt and suppress the mutant population, these tactically minded robots have proven more than capable of accomplishing their jobs with ruthless efficiency. The Sentinels have been responsible for the deaths of scores of Professor Xavier’s colleagues and students before, making their presence in Ultimate Alliance 3 and intimidating one. They could also be an indicator that more X-Men will make an appearance, despite Wolverine being the only one seen so far.
Ronan the Accuser
A villain most prominently known from his role in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, Ronan the Accuser can be seen for but a moment in between shots of other villains. His appearance in the game is completely rational, as he most commonly opposes the Guardians and the Avengers. Whether his quest will still be to gather the Power Stone or not, the use of his Kree warhammer will prove a dangerously effective tool in the fight against good.
Thanos
The intergalactic despot himself Thanos can be seen in the trailer’s final moments wielding the Infinity Gauntlet. The Gauntlet, glimmering full of Infinity Stones, is irrefutably Thanos’ most powerful weapon. His quest for the stones could be the prime plot point surrounding Ultimate Alliance 3, as multiple other villains can be seen with individual stones in hand.
