The nominations for this year’s Game Developers Choice Awards (or GDCA for short) are in. Unsurprisingly, Rockstar’s western epic Red Dead Redemption 2 leads the pack with seven total nominations. Meanwhile, other notable hits such as God of War and Celeste have racked up sizable nomination totals of their own.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Leads 2019 GDCA Nominations
Red Dead Redemption 2 has been nominated in an impressive total of seven different categories. That just barely beats God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man which both racked up six nominations in total. Over on the indie side of the fence, Celeste scored a total of three nominations. Return of the Obra Dinn, meanwhile, racked up a total of four.
Here are the categories which Red Dead Redemption 2 has been nominated for:
- Best Design
- Best Audio
- Game of the Year
- Best Technology
- Best Narrative
- The Innovation Award
- Best Visual Art
Many of those same categories also include God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man so RDR2 will have some stiff competition. All four of the above mentioned games are also the four nominations for Game of the Year. It will be interesting to see if one of the indie darlings can dethrone their triple-A brethren for top honors.
Along with the game nominations, 2019’s GDCA will confer the Lifetime Achievement Award to Amy Hennig. Hennig is the prolific creative director and writer behind Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series. The winner of this year’s Pioneer Award (who has yet to be announced) will also be honored.
You can find a full list of GDCA 2019 game nominations and categories here. GDCA 2019 will take place on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. PST (9:30 p.m. EST). The awards ceremony is part of the larger Game Developer’s Conference which runs from March 18-22 in San Francisco, California.
This year’s GDCA isn’t the only list which Red Dead Redemption 2 recently topped. Rockstar’s latest was also the highest-selling game in the UK during the final week of 2018. For more on Red Dead Redemption 2, be sure to read our exclusive interview with voice actor Gabriel Sloyer.
