Epic Games’ Fortnite is showing no signs of slowing down, with a massive amount of money generated by the game in just one month. If you were thinking perhaps the Fortnite furor had gone down even just a bit, consider yourself totally and completely incorrect.
Fortnite, across its mobile, console, and PC iterations, brought in a jaw-dropping $296 million in April alone, according to digital game sales tracker SuperData Research. That’s a ridiculous amount of money, no matter how you slice it. In fact, it’s double the amount that the game earned in February, when it reached a milestone of $126 million. What could be coming for May’s totals? Who knows at this point?
Fortnite seems to have left the other battle royale heavyweight PUBG in the dust in many respects, which isn’t surprising. Fortnite’s generating revenue with its heavily free-to-play model, which offers goodies and other cool stuff for players who are already able to jump into the game without paying so much as a cover charge. There’s a series of cosmetic items you can grab to make your character stand out in the sea of countless other players, and the Battle Pass, which is a cool $10 any time anyone cases in. Players want their Fortnite, and they’ll pay just about anything they have to in order to get it, and that’s becoming crystal clear as the months wear on.
With the addition of the Android release of Fortnite’s mobile adaptation coming soon, the game is poised to make even more cash. Epic Games has also announced that it’s looking to put $100 million toward prize pools for Fortnite competitions coming soon, which could catapult the game even further toward the massive amount of mainstream success it’s apparently seeking. Whatever’s in the cards for Fortnite in the future, it’s all going to culminate in some spectacular sales numbers over the next few months, even if it ends up fizzling out at some point. Let’s hope this is still all part of a steady, meteoric rise to the top if you’re a big Fortnite fan.
