Although Far Cry New Dawn may not be launching with the expectation of political content which fans had for Far Cry 5, it seems that the developers have snuck in at least one subtle jibe at the current US administration. In preview images revealed by GameRevolution, it seems that the game features a series of “Space Force” gear.
The Space Force Weapons in Far Cry New Dawn
President Trump first announced the establishment of a United States Space Force in March of last year; an announcement that was met by a great deal of ridicule and criticism. The organisation doesn’t exist yet, but there are reportedly plans to establish it by 2020. In fact, the organisation is the inspiration of an upcoming workplace comedy series of the same name; the work of Steve Carrell and Greg Daniels. Now, it seems that the developers at Ubisoft also decided to slip a joke into their upcoming game. The “Space Force” SA-50 Sniper Rifle has the description; “Surely the greatest firearm the world has ever seen. Ever.”

Speaking with GameRevolution about the inclusion, Jean-Sebastien Decant, the game’s Creative Director, says; “So I think it is not a comment. It is a joke. We really went crazy with the different suits you can gather in the game. So there is the reality of space and the conflict with the twins but in terms of what you can wear in the game, we really went bats*** crazy. So you can disguise as an ape, you can have a robot arm, and you can have Space Force stuff.”
At present, it doesn’t seem like Far Cry New Dawn is intending any sort of political commentary. Prior to the release of Far Cry 5, many people expected the game to have much stronger political overtones. After all, the game released into a rather fraught political climate. As it turns out, the game did have a political commentary. However, it was rooted more in the unease of the Cold War, as well as cult activity in the 80s and 90s, rather than contemporary events. Indeed, the game’s director said in an interview that much of the setting and themes had already been chosen before the 2016 American election.
