The next console generation is right around the corner. Many point out that Microsoft will reveal new information about their latest console ventures on GDC 2019. The future of gaming seems to be focused on Streaming and a bigger impulse on Games as a Service models. Verizon is one of the prime examples of this push. However, Microsoft also wants to make a move with Project xCloud.
Basically, Microsoft aims to make “the Netflix of video games”. This is done by allowing Xbox Live users to play games from Android and iOS. Of course, the greatest appeal is that players will be able to enjoy their favorite Xbox One games with a controller or through the touchscreen.
Project xCloud: The Future of Gaming?
According to a Wccf Tech report; the Xbox Backwards compatibility team will be detailing Project xCloud’s characteristics at GDC 2019. “Project xCloud is enabling Console Native games to stream through our Azure-hosted game servers and streaming clients”, the session’s description reads. “Any Console Native game currently shipping in the Microsoft Store on Xbox will be capable of streaming to a mobile device.”
Another great deal of news for some players is that – According to Microsoft – the games will be available for people with 10mbps connections. Not only that, but Microsoft also announced a new cross-platform SDK that will bring nearly all platforms together. This includes Xbox One, PC, Android, iOS and Nintendo Switch devices.
However, it’s also important to mention that Project xCloud might take a while to be fully operational. Not only that, but the Microsoft GDC 2019 presentation will be focused on showing the idea in motion.
