The absence of a proper photo mode was keenly felt by those who played Ubisoft’s The Division. The game was certainly lacking in many areas at launch, but one thing it wasn’t lacking in was gorgeous scenery. However, there was no way for players to capture a snapshot of that scenery and really make it their own.
Well, with The Division 2, Ubisoft isn’t making the same mistake twice. Right from day one the sequel will have a robust photo mode baked right into it.
The Division 2 Photo Mode Inclusion

Fans of The Division may recall the drastic measures some players utilized to correct Ubisoft’s oversight. One player even put in the legwork of enabling The Division’s PC version for a third-party mod called Cinematic Tools. That player was actually banned for their efforts since The Division’s anti-cheat measures mistook Cinematic Tools for a malicious hack. The situation was eventually rectified by Ubisoft and the studio undoubtedly noticed how badly players wanted a proper photo mode.
Well, with The Division 2 Ubisoft made sure that photography enthusiasts would no longer have to go without. Speaking with US Gamer, lead designer Keith Evans mentioned how the fan requests were too numerous to ignore:
“It’s something that the community asked for a lot. Throughout post-launch, there would be these amazing pictures that the hardcore community members would start posting on Twitter. They were just doing it themselves and it was very grassroots.”
The Division 2’s photo mode will come with all the usual bells and whistles fans have come to expect. Once a photo is taken, the player can apply filters, adjust the depth of field, and tweak other miscellaneous settings.
What’s especially impressive is how Ubisoft incorporated a photo mode into an online game. Usually, photo modes are reserved for single-player games (like Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed series). In that regard, The Division 2 will also be a sort of trailblazer for online photo mode capabilities.
