The first open-world area in Metro Exodus which players will come across is The Volga; a waterlogged marshland where the Aurora becomes stuck. Shortly after arriving in the area and becoming acquainted with the locals, you’ll meet the ‘Tsar-Fish’ a terrifying and enormous mutant catfish which the nearby cult worship as a god. After your first encounter, you will likely spot the fish again, swimming around the larger lakes of the Volga. Unfortunately, the monster’s thick hide is impervious to bullets. If you want to kill this beast, there is only one way, and it will net you the Metro Exodus Fisherman trophy. Beware, however, as you will only get one opportunity to attempt it!
Metro Exodus Fisherman: How to Kill the Tsar-Fish
When you first begin exploring the Volga, there’s no way for you to harm the Tsar-Fish. The best thing for you to do is staying as far away from it as you can. Keep progressing through the story until you are sent to recover the Krest’s railcar. The car is located in a ruined and flooded depot, considered a holy site by the cult as its the Tsar-Fish’s home. Make your way by boat into the depot, where you’ll see mutants and then the Tsar-Fish itself, arriving shortly after you.
You’ll need to slowly make your way through the depot, facing mutants and avoiding the Tsar-Fish as best you can, until you finally arrive at the depot’s main door. To reach the railcar, you must rotate a second part of the track by pulling a lever. However, do not pull the lever yet! If you do, you’ll miss the opportunity to kill the Tsar-Fish.
When you enter the side-chamber where the lever is located, notice that there is also a bell and three strings which you can interact with. To kill the Tsar-Fish, you must interact with these in the correct order, as follows:
- Ring the bell. This will lure the Tsar-Fish to your position, causing it to jump up against the wall in front of you.
- Now cut one or more of the strings, which cause bodies to drop into the water. The Tsar-Fish will move in to eat. Make sure you wait for it to move into position before stage 3. Pulling the lever too early will waste your chance to kill the fish.
- Pull the lever. This will rotate the nearby track and cause a large amount of debris to crash down on top of the Tsar-Fish. This will slay the monster and get you the Metro Exodus Fisherman trophy.
