At present, fans know very little about the upcoming Total War: Warhammer 2 DLC, other than that it will be releasing sometime between now and the end of May. The DLC was initially meant to release after Total War: Three Kingdoms. However, the recent delay for that game’s release date means that the DLC is now coming first. Today, Creative Assembly published their latest studio update, and they appeared to tease the inclusion of Bretonnia in that upcoming DLC.
Will Bretonnia Feature in the Upcoming Total War: Warhammer 2
At present, the only piece of concrete information about the DLC is that it will be a Lord Pack; an expansion which will bring some new Legendary Lords to the game. Previous packs have taken two factions and brought obvious rivals to the game. For example, ‘The King and the Warlord’ pack brought Skarsnik and Belegar Ironhammer to Total: War Warhammer. Similarly, ‘The Queen and the Crone’ pack brought Crone Hellebron and Alarielle.
Fans have been speculating for months about what this new DLC will include. Last month, Creative Assembly appeared to tease that the DLC will feature the Skaven; aligning with one of the strongest fan theories. However, that leading theory cast the Lizardmen as the rival faction. After all, the Lizardmen are one of the factions with the fewest Legendary Lords, and many players have long been hoping for an expansion for the race. However, today’s studio update appeared to suggest a different faction entirely.
“You may have noticed that we sometimes include Old World Updates alongside our DLC releases,” says Creative Assembly; “and this DLC is no exception as we are working on a bespoke new feature for one of the Warhammer I races that’ll have you bending the knee.”
The message was included with an image of a bejewelled chalice. Both that and the reference to ‘bending the knee’ certainly seem to refer to the chivalric faction of Bretonnia. So, the question is, will Bretonnia be featuring alongside the Skaven as the focus of the DLC? Or, is there merely a new system coming with the DLC for Bretonnia, as well as another faction like the Lizardmen? Either is possible. Creative Assembly recently released a major update for the Vampire Counts which brought an entirely new mechanic to the race; the vampire bloodlines. Perhaps this new DLC will bring a similar new system to revitalise Bretonnia, while also bringing Legendary Lords to the Skaven and another faction?
