CD Projekt Red Launches New Gwent Seasonal Trees Update

In their latest update for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, CD Projekt Red have brought some major changes to the title. The new “Seasonal Trees Update” launched recently, alongside the new Season of the Bear, which is the first season to feature several new mechanics and a new game mode. The update brings new rewards, and seasonal game modes which will appear in the Play menu.

The Gwent Seasons Update: Seasonal Trees and Game Mode

The latest Gwent update brings a few new features to the Witcher card game, and the focus is clearly on seasonal content. Players will be able to unlock unique seasonal borders, avatars, and cardbacks each new season in the Reward Book, once those players reach level 10. Each tree will also offer a premium card, seasonal game mode quests, and regular rewards. The largest piece of new content are the new seasonal game modes, available once players hit level 10. These game modes will be different with each new Gwent season, and the first of these is available with the new Season of the Bear.

Players can find the new seasonal game modes in the Play menu, next to the Classic tile. In this first new seasonal game mode, both players begin the match with an Unrelenting She-Bear; a 5-power card with several special abilities:

  • “Both players begin the game with Unrelenting She-Bear on their side.”
  • “On turn start, if either player does not control Unrelenting She-Bear and has not passed, Spawn and Summon it to their Melee row.”
  • “At the end of each turn deal 2 damage to the opponent’s Unrelenting She-Bear.”
  • “Deathwish: Your opponent draws a card.”
  • “Doomed.”

The new Seasonal Trees update also includes changes to the requirements to unlock 100% of a faction’s MMR. Players will now only need to complete 25 games to achieve 100%, instead of 40. Seasonal rank resets have also gotten a rework. Players at rank 26-30 will not change rank between seasons, while rank 21-25 players will start at rank 25. Players at rank 1-20 will drop 4 ranks at the start of a season. Finally, Pro Rank players will start a new season at rank 5. However, if a player is in the Top 500 Pro Rank players, they will instead remain at Pro Rank.
