Dark Zones, one of the standout features from The Division, are returning in The Division 2 later this month. For the sequel, Ubisoft has expanded Dark Zone gameplay functionality, providing more options for brave explorers and nefarious rogues. The Division 2’s latest trailer plays up the ominous nature of the Dark Zones themselves. Should you brave their dangers, the greatest threat may just be the player standing next to you.
The Division 2 Dark Zone Trailer
The new Dark Zone trailer doesn’t have any direct gameplay, but it does utilize in-game assets to excellent effect. The overall tone and style of the trailer honestly makes The Division 2 feel more like a survival-horror game.
You won’t encounter any zombies or monsters in the Dark Zone, but that doesn’t mean you won’t feel fear. There are coveted rewards to be found in each of The Division 2’s Dark Zone areas like gear and currency. However, extracting those rewards means you must expose yourself to rogue players looking to pilfer your goods by force.
In The Division 2, rogue players can also do more than just attack and rob their fellows. The sequel has varying “rogue levels” which increase as players perform nefarious actions like looting corpses and raiding supply caches. There are even special “rogue vendors” who offer unique gear to those who are able to prove their disavowed nature.
Along with the Dark Zones, The Division 2 has more structured PvP modes as well. Those looking for the ultimate risk/reward scenario, though, will want to stick with the more open PvPvE Dark Zones.
The Division 2 is set to launch in full on March 15 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The sequel’s Dark Zone component will undoubtedly factor into Ubisoft’s post-launch content plans as well. If you’re hoping to survive the Dark Zone’s dangers, hooking up with a clan can help.
