God of War may be about to increase its already prodigious collection of awards. After winning ‘Game of the Year‘ at the Game Awards at the end of last year, the 2018 title is now nominated for no less than 7 awards at the upcoming Bafta Games Awards; with a total of 10 nominations overall. Although it does face notable competition, it seems likely that God of War will nonetheless continue to dominate.
The 10 Bafta Games Awards Nominations for God of War
The 15th Bafta Games Awards are due to take place on the 4th of April at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. The event will be live-streamed on Twitch and a variety of other social media platforms. Last year, the Best Game award went to ‘What Remains of Edith Finch’. This year, the title is looking to be a fierce competition; one which pits God of War against Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Celeste, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Return of the Obra Dinn.
In addition to Best Game, God of War has nine other award nominations. In the Artistic Achievement category, God of War faces competition from Detroit: Become Human, Gris, and Spider Man, along with Red Dead Redemption 2, which is likely to be its fiercest competitor throughout the awards event. Santa Monica Studios’ latest title also has nominations for Audio Achievement, Game Design, Music, and Narrative. The final four nominations all fall under the Performer award category, where God of War dominates the field.
Only two Performer nominations aren’t for God of War. The first is Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. The second is for Melissanthi Mahut as Kassandra of Sparta in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. However, the rest of the six award nominations go to Christopher Judge, Danielle Bisutti, Jeremy Davies, and Sunny Suljic. The four portrayed Kratos, Freya, The Stranger, and Atreus, respectively, in God of War. While it remains to be seen how well God of War will perform, it seems likely that the game will win in at least some of the categories it’s nominated for.
