Epic Games, the studio behind hit battle royale title Fortnite, has announced a brand-new chance for players to get their own ideas into the game itself! The LTM Creator Contest will result in a new Limited Time Mode coming to Fortnite; the first ever to be developed entirely within the game’s Creative mode by a community creator. With millions of active players in Fortnite, it’s a great opportunity for aspiring game designers and community members alike!
Epic Launches New Game Mode Design Fortnite Contest
“When Creative was first envisioned,” explains Zak Phelps, Epic’s Creative Development Director; “we were extremely excited about the potential for creators to create their own games that could then be featured as LTMs. The Block was the first step, introduced in Season 7 and began the journey of shared player made creations. Season 8 furthers that opportunity for any player or group as you can now matchmake together into an experience created by you, for everyone. Your imagination and creative use of the tools available are the only limits to what you can do.”
To enter the contest, you must design a multiplayer experience in Fortnite’s Creative mode. The game must have between 4 – 16 players, but the contest has very few guidelines beyond that. Epic recommends keeping game length between 10 and 20 minutes, and points to existing LTMs as a primary reference. They also note that every player should be actively participating through the entire mode. Designers should seek to put themselves in the mindset of players; envision how their games will allow for multiple different styles of play, not just their own. Indeed, it may help for players to tweak their Fortnite Pro settings to try out different setups which others players commonly use.
Your submission needs to include your Discord name, email address, a YouTube video showcasing a fly through of the game and an overhead view of the whole experience, and screenshots. It also, of course, needs a title and description. The contest is open until 11:59 PM ET on the 8th of April. You can submit your entry on the official submission page. The full contest rules in greater detail are available here.
