A constant thorn (no, not *that* Thorn) in Destiny 2 players’ sides has been the game’s Enhancement Cores system. Enhancement Cores (formerly known as Masterwork Cores) have long been a required component for Destiny 2’s gear infusion system. However, the only reliable way of obtaining Enhancement Cores also puts heavy strain on another essential currency type, Legendary Shards.
All of that will change, however, when Destiny 2’s upcoming season 7 launches later this year. The aptly named Season of Opulence will introduce a new user-friendly method for obtaining Enhancement Cores.
Destiny 2 Enhancement Core Changes
In its latest This Week at Bungie blog post, Bungie touched on the subject of Enhancement Cores. The studio’s intent with the Enhancement Cores requirement was to make gear infusion more impactful and meaningful. However, Bungie did admit that the current system for finding Enhancement Cores could use some fine-tuning.
As of this writing, there are only three reliable methods for finding Cores. However, two of those methods actually aren’t that reliable:
- Buying Cores from Spider in the Tangled Shore for a multiplying Legendary Shard cost. Unless a player want to constantly farm for Legendary Shards it’s only feasible to buy 1-2 Cores per day.
- Finding Cores from dismantled Legendary gear (not guaranteed and has an extremely low chance for non-masterwork gear).
- Completing scrapper bounties which, again, can randomly drop from dismantled gear. The player also has no say in whether the bounty involves a PvE or PvP objective.
Fortunately, Bungie will introduce some much-needed quality of life changes for Enhancement Cores in the Season of Opulence. Scrapper bounties will be phased out and in their place the Tower’s gunsmith, Banshee-44, will offer his own bounties. These new bounties can be purchased with Gunsmith Materials and come in both daily and weekly varieties. Every Gunsmith bounty will award at least one Enhancement Core upon completion.
